Kick-off event of the Belgian Plastic Pollution Research Community

We are building a collaborative network of researchers across Belgium working on all aspects of plastic pollution. Our mission is to bring scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders together to advance knowledge on plastic pollution, understand environmental and human health effects, support risk assessment and mitigation measures as well as evidence-based solutions for a litter-free environment. Through collaborative research, shared infrastructure and coordinated action, the Belgian Plastic Pollution Research Community can advance the scientific state-of-the-art.

To launch our community we are organizing the first Belgian Plastic Pollution Community Day on July 7th, 2026 at lecture room 1.4, Campus Ledeganck in Gent (Karel Lodewijk Ledeganckstraat 35, 9000 Gent). The event will start at 9 am in the morning (with registration from 8:30 am onwards) and will include coffee breaks and lunch. The day will consist of two parts. First, we will set up sessions in break-out rooms to connect with people within your research domain and to connect with people from other research domains within the field of plastic pollution. Second, we invited two speakers who will share their experience on setting up research networks and how these can be used to find additional funding. In addition, we foresee a networking reception from 4:30 pm onwards. To foresee in drinks and lunch, we ask a registration fee of 50 euro per participant.
