Research Focus
My work focusses on plastic pellet pollution within the Scheldt estuary. From monitoring of plastic pellet losses in the port area, to analysing the dynamics of plastic pellets within different environmental compartments, documenting plastic pellet concentrations along the Scheldt riverbank within different spatiotemporal fluctuations, and determining polymer types and potential degradation rates of those plastic pellets through FTIR, and imaging by microscopy and microtomography.
